Maid of Honor Responsibilities

The maid of honor probably knows exactly what the bride would want

The two primary responsibilities the maid of honor has are the bridal shower and bachelorette party. I was once the maid of honor for a friend who got married in san Diego and I traveled very far to host these parties because I knew how much it meant to her. 

The maid of honor is chosen to organize these parties and does all the planning, since as the bride's best friend she probably knows exactly what the bride would want, who she would want to invite, what foods she likes, which games and so on.

The bride does not usually get involved in the planning of either of these parties and has good faith that the maid of honor will do a great job and provide the right kind of atmosphere and entertainment, these parties are discussed more in depth in other chapters of this wedding planning guide.

Another role the maid of honor has is deciding the bridesmaids gowns. When I flew into san Diego I did not partake in this activity because this is something done a long time before the wedding day and I only reached san Diego in time to hold the bachelorette party although I did organize the shower with a different bridesmaid over the phone and gave her great ideas. 

The maid of honor decides with the bride what color and style the bridesmaids dresses will be and once that is established the maid of honor rounds up the bridesmaids and is responsible for getting them their dresses.

The wedding day is the most hectic day for the bride

It is also common for the maid of honor to assist the bride in choosing the bridal gown. Even though my friend was planning her wedding in san Diego, most of the responsibilities as the maid of honor came out to play on the wedding day. the wedding day is not only a very hectic day for the bride, but for the maid of honor as well. The maid of honor does not just walk down the aisle but is also in charge of any last minute problems that might come up and needs to make sure that all the bridesmaids are ready.
